It’s a refreshingly honest and engaging account of a former Wall Street Trader turned entrepreneur, Kushal Choksi, who chase of the American Dream came crashing down after his brush with death in 9/11. The unknown and unfamiliar voice that guided Kushal to safety as the plane crashed into the towers and the ground began to shake would became the voice that would lead to his eventual healing from PTSD and to a journey of inner transformation and a life of service. Kushal's story is so powerful and his experiences with trying to decode spirituality are so relatable. Through his gripping and genuine storytelling, I am able to connect with him and understand how a systematic spiritual approach and meditation helped him in his personal transformation journey and in overcoming the trauma of being a 9/11 survivor. The book is gripping and full of interesting characters. Most importantly, for the first time, I am able to relate to the power of spiritual experiences in my own personal transformation. Though the circumstances of the author’s life are different than my own, the challenges, insecurities, and doubts he faces are incredibly relatable. This book is funny and easy to read, yet simultaneously thought provoking. It’s rare to find a story that stays with you after you read the last page. This is definitely one of them. He easily glides in and out of the depths of his lows and peaks of his highs while reliving his experiences in the context of his relationships and his learnings. This book is a combination of both. This book is filled with anecdotes of struggles and grace. Out of the collection of various books that i was reading this was the easiest and most fun to read. Every page was relatable, personal and honest. Being true to its title, the book provides a first person narrative of a left-brained New Yorker who survived the catastrophic 9/11 which ultimately led him to question his priorities and life itself. To the reader, 9/11 represents life situations that force you to question the ‘why’ of your existence, make you ‘curious’ about who you are and lead you to ‘seeking’ the truth while also facing the ‘reluctance’ to spiritual practices. It’s a page turner (perhaps difficult to imagine for this genre) so I went through it pretty fast the first time around. But some of the simple one liners got me thinking hard. The author has a simple and honest style of writing. Chapters are short - which works for me. It is not at all preachy like many books in this category.
